Exporting Locations

You can export all locations to a CSV file in order to view or edit them in a spreadsheet or back them up or import them to a new site.

Importing Locations

You can import locations via a specially formatted CSV file.  To view the format of the CSV, we recommend you add a couple of sample locations in SimpleMap and then export them and check the CSV file for the correct format.

When importing locations it is best to break your CSV file into 100locations per CSV file. Importing more than 100 locations at a time can cause problems.  This is because each location has to be geocoded through a call out to the Google Maps API.

Note that Google has an API limit for geocoding locations of 2,500 requests per day.  If you’re trying to import more than this number of locations then you may have to split the import over multiple days to get around this limit.

When creating your CSV file for importing locations you should bear in mind that the API does not accept country names.  Instead you need to use the official country code.  You can find a list of these country codes on Wikipedia here – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1_alpha-2#Officially_assigned_code_elements
